John Brown in Kansas Territory Map
The Pottawatomie Massacre was over in a matter of hours, but it effects rippled throughout the world. Grady Atwater, site administrator for the John Brown Museum State Historic Site in Osawatomie, Kansas, will present the story of John’s 1856 raid against proslavery settlers near Lane, Kansas, and establish its national and international historic importance.
Grady’s presentation is part of the 86th Annual Meeting of the Members of the Franklin County Historical Society. The meeting will open at 2 p.m. with a review of 2022 and preview of 2023, with a short intermission before our featured speaker’s presentation, which will begin at 2:30 pm.
The January 29 program will be the historical society’s first hybrid program! Guests can attend in person at the FCHS Archives & Research Center, 2011 East Logan Street, in Ottawa, Kansas. Online attendees can participate via Zoom (registration required) or Facebook Live (no registration required). The program is free and open to the public.
